The HISS allows testing to be conducted in a controlled environment under visual meteorological conditions, greatly enhancing situational awareness as various heating systems are tested. Flight test results, outstanding issues, and conclusions will be presented and discussed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our second speaker,&nbsp;<strong>Dr. David Orchard<\/strong>&nbsp;will provide a detailed overview of the&nbsp;<strong>National Research Council<\/strong>&#8216;s (NRC) icing testing capabilities. The presentation will cover testing of helicopter-specific probes in icing conditions, testing of traditional ice protection systems, and research on passive ice protection systems. Additionally, the session will briefly touch on the impact of icing conditions on Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS) performance, commonly known as drones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the event, a light meal will be served with drinks. The doors will open at 5:30 PM, and presentations will begin at&nbsp;<strong>6:30 PM<\/strong>. If you are not a Bell Mirabel employee, please allow time to go through security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>The first ten participants to register will be eligible for a visit to Bell&#8217;s factory floor. To participate in the visit, you must arrive at 4:15 PM. The selected participants will be contacted before the event.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Attending the event:<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The event will be held at the Bell Textron Canada Limited facility in Mirabel:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/Y1fczpgzD3aDV3iM9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/Y1fczpgzD3aDV3iM9<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please use the visitor entrance shown in the picture below to enter the parking lot and access the building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are not a Bell employee, you will need to provide the following: a government-issued photo ID, your country of birth, nationality and current employer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>About the speakers:<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Dr. Albert Brand<\/strong>&nbsp;is an aerospace engineering graduate of Georgia Tech&#8217;s U.S. Army-funded Rotorcraft Center. His 35-year career at Bell includes experimental testing and analytical methods. In a 7-year assignment at PAX River Naval Air Station, he supported V-22 flight testing with groundbreaking work on the vortex ring state, for which he received the Larry Bell Pioneer Award. In his current role as Senior Technical Fellow, Dr. Brand provides technical oversight to programs and supports numerous corporate initiatives. He is a Technical Fellow of the Vertical Flight Society, holds 23 U.S. patents, and is a 2020 recipient of the Textron Chairman&#8217;s Award for &#8220;Configuring Bell&#8217;s FARA to win.&#8221;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Dr. David Orchard<\/strong>&nbsp;received his Ph.D. in 1997 from the University of Nottingham, UK, on the experimental study of heat transfer over drag reducing riblets, and joined QinetiQ in the field of high supersonic and hypersonic aerodynamics. Part of his research was conducted at the Defense Research and Development Canada (DRDC) Valcartier Research Center. He joined the NRC in 2001 where he worked on numerous projects in the Aerodynamics Laboratory and was Facility Manager for the 1.5m tri-sonic and 9m low speed wind tunnels. For the past 12 years, he has focused on aircraft icing research in the Altitude Icing Wind Tunnel.
