Recent Vertical Lift Research at the National Research Council of Canada, April 23rd at 11:30-12:30 AM ET"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong><em>Save the date: On April 23<sup>rd<\/sup> at 11:30-12:30 AM ET, join us virtually for a talk from experts at the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) presenting Recent Vertical Lift Research.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">REGISTER HERE :<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/ahs.portal.membersuite.com\/events\/ViewEvent.aspx?contextID=87f8e057-0078-ca29-d948-e46771e4cd01&amp;orderID=87f8e057-002e-cdfd-d948-ba4351f6d001\">https:\/\/ahs.portal.membersuite.com\/events\/ViewEvent.aspx?contextID=87f8e057-0078-ca29-d948-e46771e4cd01&amp;orderID=87f8e057-002e-cdfd-d948-ba4351f6d001<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Short<\/strong> <strong>Abstract<\/strong>: For over 60 years the National Research Council (NRC) of Canada\u2019s Aerospace Research Centre has conducted a broad variety of helicopter and more broadly vertical flight focused research.\u00a0 Structural, manufacturing, flight controls, and aerodynamic improvements have all been focus areas for the research at the NRC.\u00a0 \u00a0In this presentation four of the Aerospace Research Centre\u2019s researchers and engineers will present the NRC\u2019s Integrated Aerial Mobility (IAM) research program and several current research projects, including flight autonomy, rotorcraft simulator model fidelity improvements, in-flight physiological monitoring of pilot workload, recent testing of drone impact on aircraft structure.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>Speakers<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Intro to NRC, IAM &amp; Canadian Vertical Lift Autonomy Demonstration research \u00a0\u2013 Derek (Duff) Gowanlock<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Mr. Derek (Duff) Gowanlock is a Research Flight Test Engineer at the Flight Research Laboratory (FRL) of NRC. \u00a0He is the Technical Lead for the Flight Autonomy thrust of the Integrated Mobility Program and is the Project Manager for the Canadian Vertical Lift Autonomy Project, a five year $10M project demonstrating kit based flight autonomy technology on the NRC Bell 412 Advanced Systems Research Aircraft.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Rotorcraft Flight Sim Model Fidelity Improvement \u2013 Arthur Gubbels<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Mr. Arthur Gubbels is a Principal Research Officer at the Flight Research Laboratory (FRL) of NRC and developer and Facility Manager of the Bell 412 Advanced Systems Research Aircraft (ASRA), a unique $20 million national facility. His specialization is helicopter control and handling qualities and his research predominantly involves conducting flight test experiments using NRC\u2019s fly-by-wire (FBW) helicopters. The current focus of his research involves designing and testing flight control algorithms for autonomous helicopters.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In-flight Physiological Monitoring of Pilot Workload \u2013 Dr. Andrew Law<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Dr. Andrew Law is a Research Council Officer in the Aerospace Human Factors Group at the NRC Flight Research Laboratory. He holds B.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in biomedical engineering and a M.Sc. degree in electrical engineering. His specific research focus is physiological signal processing and neuroergonomic assessment of aircrew performance, stress, workload, and fatigue.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Drone Impact Testing \u00a0\u2013 Dr. Azzedine Dadouche<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Dr. Azzedine Dadouche is a Senior Research Officer at the National Research Council of Canada. His main research interests are topics related to rotor-bearing and sealing systems for gas turbines as well as air-to-air collisions.
